Board certified in cardiothoracic surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Malcolm MacDonald is a member of Valley Children’s Cardiothoracic Surgery Team. He has expertise in many aspects of pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, including simple and complex pediatric and congenital cardiovascular surgical procedures. The Cardiothoracic Surgery Program, whose surgeons are from Stanford University School of Medicine, is part of one the largest pediatric cardiothoracic surgical programs in North America.
Currently, Dr. MacDonald is co-medical director of perioperative services at Valley Children’s. He has served as Chair of the Department of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Valley Children’s. He has published in several professional journals including the “Journal of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery” and the “Annals of Thoracic Surgery.”
Dr. MacDonald graduated with honors from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga. After five years of general surgery residency training and two years of cardiothoracic surgery research at Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. MacDonald moved west to California. He completed a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco and received fellowship training in pediatric cardiac surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. MacDonald lives in the Madera foothills with his wife, Valley Children’s Vice President Jane Willson, where they enjoy the abundance of outdoor activities that the Valley and Sierra Nevada Mountains have to offer. Hobbies and interests include photography and endurance sports (running and triathlons).
