Dr. Kevin Tran, Class of 2026

Hometown: Valencia, CA

Medical School: Touro University School of Osteopathic Medicine, California

Why did you choose Valley Children's Pediatric Residency Program?
I chose Valley Children's because I was interested in training at a program where the pathologies are diverse and the catchment area is large. Additionally, when I rotated there as a fourth-year medical student, I left knowing that the program leadership and faculty truly cared for and supported their residents, whether it be through fostering their advocacy and scholarly interests or their emphasis on resident wellness. I felt comfortable knowing that Valley Children's would train me to become a highly competent pediatrician while fostering a strong sense of community where I would feel valued and supported.

Hobbies: Trail running with my dog, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muy Thai, cooking, barbecuing, eating out

Advocacy and Research Interests and Accomplishments: I am passionate about working with underserved communities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I participated in outreach efforts through Project Roomkey, where I helped manage the primary medical care needs for people and children struggling with homelessness. I am also interested in preventative health, as in my previous life, I worked as a tobacco cessation counselor for undergraduate students at UCSB. Moving forward in residency, not only do I want to continue my advocacy work, but I also want to further my understanding and interest in how health informatics can play a role in improving patient outcomes.

Care Philosophy: I believe in patient-centered care, as the best patient outcomes are those that parents and families can understand and feel confident in. I want to be the type of provider who can boil down complex medical jargon into simple ideas and the kind of provider patients and families can fully trust and turn to in difficult times. I want to be the kind of provider who does not shy away from difficult questions or conversations and does not leave any stone unturned.
